I just got my first FULL MANUSCRIPT REJECTION

I have this sinking feeling that history is bound to repeat itself again. Last year, the first agent to request my manuscript was a judge from a grant contest. She also ended up being the first to reject my manuscript.

This year, the first agent to request my manuscript was a volunteer participating in a giveaway critique I’d won on Twitter. Today, she was the first one to reject manuscript #2.

Last year, I got a string of full manuscript rejections following the first. I hope it doesn’t happen again this year, but you really never know. Although I will say that it’s not as bad to be rejected by an agent you didn’t seek out.

It was a personalized rejection but very brief. She felt the pacing was too slow for her. Now this was an issue I’d found myself after a previous critique so I went through the story and fixed it before sending it out.

Because of this, I’m still confident in my draft. This isn’t a situation in which I’d go back to the drawing board or anything. I’m just checking names off the list.
